Seeking a General Manager for two Arizona-based HVAC companies to drive growth, improve efficiency, and unify team culture.
THE PORTFOLIO COMPANY
Founded in the early 1980s, a well-established provider of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and remodeling services has become a key player in the Arizona market, serving both residential and commercial clients. Another company, established in the late 1940s, focuses primarily on residential HVAC services, offering repair, replacement, and new construction. With a long-standing history, this business is a recognized market leader in the Arizona area.
THE PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM
The Private Equity firm focused on investments in high-potential, lower-middle-market companies specializes in partnering with businesses undergoing transitions. The firm has a track record of driving operational improvements, expanding market presence, and scaling companies to new levels of growth. Its portfolio includes companies across diverse industries, with a strong emphasis on creating long-term value through strategic leadership and operational efficiencies. This firm provides the resources and expertise needed for its portfolio companies to achieve sustainable growth and improved profitability.
THE CULTURE
Both companies have distinct cultures: one maintains a traditional, technician-centered mindset with a close-knit, slower-paced team that is somewhat resistant to change, while the other is more open to new approaches and operational improvements. Both use Service Titan and Sage, and both would benefit from steady, consistent leadership to provide direction and reduce frustration, helping align the teams for forward momentum.

THE ROLE
The day-to-day role for this position will include the following tasks:
· Hands-on management, working alongside teams to embed a customer-first culture across both entities.
· Focusing on building operational efficiencies and expanding residential services within the companies.
· Directly engaging with both commercial and residential projects, managing resources, and ensuring seamless service delivery.
· Collaborating with the portfolio’s CEO, COO, and CFO, as well as using provided resources to train and develop local leadership.
KEY SELLING POINTS OF THE ROLE
- Access to a Nexstar coach exclusively for the company, with flexibility to implement additional training programs if they drive results.
- Achievable bonus structure—all companies within the portfolio have reached their bonus targets over the last three years.
- Robust support system including a portfolio trainer for management development, as well as recruiting and marketing assistance.
- A non-traditional corporate environment where both CEO and COO are operators, with a strong people-focused culture that prioritizes the success of team members over strict corporate structures.
KEY CHALLENGES FOR THE ROLE
· Implementing a sales-driven culture within an established, old-school technician-led mindset.
· Addressing numerous broken processes and implementing structured, efficient workflows across both sites.
· Making tough calls to align both businesses toward a common objective and smooth integration.
· Bridging the cultural divide between the two companies and managing resistance from the close-knit and traditional team.
YOUR BACKGROUND
The successful individual will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:
· Proven experience in residential home services (essential).
· Sales expertise with a background in in-home value creation.
· P&L management experience.
· Nexstar experience is a plus.
· General Manager or operational experience within a similar service industry.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Basic Salary: Competitive base salary
Bonus Package: 20% bonus based on budget and EBITDA targets, with additional unlimited bonus opportunities.
