November 26, 2025

The Appointed Executive

General Manager

Kevin Yates is a proven operational leader with over two decades of experience driving performance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical service businesses. He has managed $17M–$62M P&Ls, improved EBITDA, and transformed underperforming service divisions through disciplined execution and hands-on leadership.

At TD Industries, Kevin increased EBITDA from 7.5% to 9.2%, strengthened subcontractor networks, brought more work in-house, and secured master service agreements that improved cost control. At Pritchard Industries, he oversaw revenue growth from $41M to $62M, lifted EBITDA from 15% to 18%, and played a key role in three M&A transactions, including due diligence and integration.

Kevin’s experience spans full-cycle commercial HVAC projects—from blueprint review and pre-construction planning to installation and commissioning—across universities, hospitals, labs, and large commercial campuses. Known for leading from the front, he builds trust with field teams, drives accountability, and thrives in fast-paced, PE-backed environments where operational change and platform growth are priorities.

THE REASON FOR THE SEARCH

Columbia Home Services needed to replace the current General Manager of Amos Home Services due to severe cultural and operational instability. The incumbent GM had created organizational chaos, resisted executing the company’s strategy, and caused employee turnover and disengagement.

Additionally, much of the business was still “in the GM’s head,” with minimal documented processes, no CRM, and outdated financial systems. With a pivot toward residential HVAC, upcoming implementations of ServiceTitan and Sage Intacct, and the need to protect a $6.7M commercial electrical revenue base, the business required a transformational operational leader capable of rebuilding structure, culture, and scalable processes.

An interim leader was considered, but the founders preferred securing a permanent GM capable of driving the long-term platform vision.

THE PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM

Tenex Capital specializes in acquiring and scaling middle-market service businesses through a combination of operational excellence, system upgrades, and rigorous M&A execution. Their mandate is clear: build a $200M, $35M EBITDA platform within the next 3–5 years through organic growth and targeted acquisitions.

They needed a leader in Temple, TX who could stabilize a distressed asset while preparing it for scalable, acquisition-ready growth.

THE PORTFOLIO COMPANY

Amos Home Services, headquartered in Temple, Texas, provides commercial and residential electrical and HVAC services. Historically commercial-heavy, the company is undergoing a major strategic shift toward residential HVAC, leveraging a legacy base of 17,000 customers.

Key business realities at the time of the search:

  • 2025 projected revenue: $10.3M

  • 2025 projected EBITDA: $588K (suppressed due to GM issues)

  • 2024 ending EBITDA: approximately $1M

  • Commercial mix: 78%

  • Residential mix: 22%

  • No CRM in place, with ServiceTitan scheduled for implementation

  • Sage 50 still used for finance, with Intacct planned for Q4 2025 / Q1 2026

As part of Columbia Home Services, Amos sits within a broader platform of $70M revenue / $12–13M EBITDA, with several acquisitions under LOI that could rapidly double the footprint.

THE SEARCH REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate needed to demonstrate:

  • Commercial electrical leadership experience

  • Residential new construction (CNC & RNC) experience

  • Deep HVAC + electrical services expertise (including generators)

  • Ability to build and execute operational playbooks

  • Strong P&L ownership

  • Proven team leadership through transformation

  • Experience with CRM/technology implementation (ServiceTitan ideal)

  • Private equity experience

  • Ability to thrive in “organized chaos”

  • A change agent capable of resetting a damaged culture

This role required a high-accountability, hands-on operator able to rebuild structure from the ground up.

THOUGHTS ON THE CANDIDATE

Kevin is an ideal and timely fit for Amos Home Services. His blend of commercial and residential experience—particularly in HVAC and electrical—aligns perfectly with the company’s revenue mix and growth mandate.

We were especially impressed by:

  • His deep commercial HVAC + electrical background

  • His experience rebuilding broken operations and stabilizing teams

  • His ability to implement structure, KPIs, and process discipline

  • His comfort operating in disorganized environments

  • His readiness for CRM and SaaS system rollouts

  • His proven leadership in PE-backed organizations

  • His calm, structured operating style—an ideal match for COO Feroz Rehman

Kevin brings the operational rigor the COO needs beneath him, and the cultural leadership the business desperately required after the destabilizing tenure of the outgoing GM. He also has the strategic mindset to help shift the business from primarily commercial work to a scalable residential HVAC model.

We are incredibly confident in this appointment. Kevin is positioned to:

  • Reset the culture and re-engage teams

  • Rebuild the leadership layer beneath him

  • Protect commercial revenue while expanding residential HVAC

  • Execute the ServiceTitan and Intacct implementations

  • Prepare the operation for future bolt-ons

  • Help drive the broader platform toward $200M revenue and $35M EBITDA

A high-confidence and high-impact hire at the exact right moment for the business.
